Home Made Bread
Our local bakery Royal, in Martock, does really good bread, but there's nothing like making your own. After the battle of the bread-makers, this is the result of the latest Kenwood made dough and I'm not fussed that the Breville isn't working any longer, as it's pretty decent.
I made the dough to my own recipe after finding the last lot I made a bit heavy. The new pan performed wonderfully, the bread slid out and was light gold all over, so I'm pretty chuffed. The crust is really crispy and the inside is light and tasty. Yes, I was weak and couldn't wait - I had to try a slice with home made butter and it is ...hmmm, I think I need another slice to be able to properly describe it to you! ;-)
That's the old Kenwood beastie in the background - a definite winner.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who runs, and loves, antique kitchenalia! LOL
Looks wonderful! It's so funny when I hear you talk of local places! I've probably stood next to you at the Bakery Royale and not known it!!
Ever eaten brekky in the Coffee Pot?!?
No... is it nice?
My nearest bread outlet, if I haven't made my own, is the little shop in South Petherton - I'm often to be found lurking in the barkers or the greengrocers!
Royal(e) (is there an e?) is really good bread - I know that when we have visitors and we needed high volumes we stocked up and it looked like the house had been hit by a plague of locusts - the bread just disappeared at a rate on knots! Always a good sign.
I can't remember if there's an 'e' or not, and I'm annoyed by that as I walked past the place this evening! South Petherton isn't a place that I've really explored, apart from the David Hall.
The Coffee Pot do a lovely fry up, both for veggies and non-veggies alike.
Well, the next time I have the munchies and I'm near Martock, I shall go and check it out! Kim is very partial to a good fry-up so I shall mention it to him next time he's trying to wriggle out of cooking breakfast!
You'd know if you'd seen me out and about, I'm 5' 3" tall and as wide as I'm high. I should have a wombat as my avatar - the short, stout hairy legs, dim brain and potentially aggressive attitude rather fit the bill!
Do you ever go to the Arts Centre in Ilminster? I only discovered it recently, but they have a nice cafe and do a very acceptable carrot cake and excellent tea. It's always busy, so everyone else must like it too. Better still, you can while away the time looking at some good (and some not so good) art while you sip your tea - well worth a visit if you're out and about!
Thanks for the recommendation! Illminster isn't a place that I've really explored, for some reason. I do love art, and my partner is a serious antique freak - we're often to be found at the DMG fair at the Shepton Mallet Show Ground.
I adore carrot cake, it's something I've actually been known to make . . . may be I should have another go one of these fine days!
